Based on Roland Barthes' Mythologies from 1957, this book is dedicated to naming and exploring today's myths of everyday life almost seven decades after the publication of the famous classic. This "actualisation" from the perspective of the 21st century takes the form of short, pointed texts on contemporary everyday phenomena - just as Barthes himself did at the time. The more than 30 authors from Germany and abroad focus on topics and issues that are related to the fields of design, architecture, art and the environment or appear particularly relevant to them: on the one hand, designers are the authors of the collected contributions. On the other hand, those interested in questions of design, art and environmental design in general - including students in particular - are the primary target group of this project.
