Preface: I first entered upon the translation of this, the earliest known published work treating of both magnetism and electricity, in the beginning of 1889. Much of the information contained within is still useful and practical today. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900's and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
