In 1832-34, German scientist Prince Maximilian of Wied-Neuwied travelled interior regions of North America. Accompanying him was 22-year-old Swiss artist Karl Bodmer (1809-93). This volume focuses on the number of legitimate and illegitimate reproductions the North American prints engendered and to Bodmer's post-expedition output as a printmaker.
In 1832, twenty-two-year-old Swiss artist Karl Bodmer was employed to create a "faithful and vivid image" of America and its people. This book contains 431 illustrations (most in color), which reflect the updating of Bodmer's documenting process, and essays and appendices elucidating all aspects of the project.
